Who is Mocha?

Hello! My real name is Sarah (she/her/hers), and I own and run Made By Mocha while being a work from home mom. Mocha is a nickname that my husband gave me when we first began dating (read the whole story on my Stories page). That nickname became a persona representing all the best of me. I pour the best of myself into every item and design.

I learned to crochet when my mom and stepdad had to evacuate from fires in Sonoma County in October 2019 and spent the week learning fiber arts. When I realized the calming effect of creating and designing crochet items, that sense of peace quickly became a passion that became a business. My shop launched the night before the first Bay Area COVID-19 shutdowns were announced, and I crocheted my way through the pandemic. Being an immuno-compromised individual, the pandemic was especially isolating; but, I found creativity and connection through my work. When a family member was diagnosed with cancer, I began my charity bears. My work is a continuing trauma response - but one that brings much joy and healing to myself, my family, and my customers.  

Many of my items have been inspired by my children, other family members, or requests from friends for their children. Every time I design something, I do my best to make the item and the pattern available for sale. Unless requested for direct commissions, I do not sell items made from other designers' patterns.
